All hail SONNY J as Whitstable’s accidental genius returns with "Handsfree", an effortlessly addictive collage of northern soul, Morricone, and The Fifth Dimension, with an added splash of The Avalanches thrown in for good measure. With one busted record deck, virtually no technical expertise, and a letterbox full of final demands, SONNY J continues to venture where others fear to tread, crafting a head spinning array of sounds and textures into 4 minutes of psychedelic future pop. The enigmatic Mr. J makes it his business to confound categorization, and with debut album/mission statement "Disastro" out on June 16, 2008, "Handsfree" is further kaleidoscopic proof that it is shaping up to be one of the defining albums of the year; a record sure to have the festivals rocking and the pigeon-holers scratching their heads. The music video for "Handsfree" was directed by Eran Creevy (Utah Saints "Something Good ‘08"; Alex Gaudino "Destination Calabria".
